BIGGER CLASS SIZES POLICY CUT DOWN TO SIZE
Posted on June 7, 2012 by admin in Hone Harawira, Press Releases“This is not about the government doing the right thing” said MANA Leader Hone Harawira about the government’s decision to dump their universally hated increased class size policy. “It’s an admission that they screwed up the policy and that they had no idea what the public reaction would be”.
“It’s an abject failure of government’s decision to use Treasury as it’s policymaking unit” said Harawira “and an absolute disaster for the Minister Hekia Parata’s career”.
“It’s also a slap in the face for the Maori Party whose president Pem Bird came out in support of the policy earlier today, and shows that not only were they not consulted when the policy was introduced but they clearly weren’t told when the policy was going to be dumped either”.
“Bigger class sizes don’t help children learn, they hinder it” said Harawira. “Dumping the policy is a decision that will be welcomed by children, their parents, teachers, principals, school boards, every educational researcher worth their salary – basically everyone in the country except the Minister and the Treasury”.
