40th anniversary celebration SATURDAY 18 FEBRUARY from 7pm at the Ponsonby Community Centre, Ponsonby Terrace.
THERE ARE MANY FORMER PU PEOPLE WHO WE HAVEN’T TRACKED DOWN – PLEASE PASS THIS INVITATION ON.
Article in January Ponsonby News:
Throughout the 1970s the Ponsonby Peoples Union set up a big food co-op which supplied weekly cheap veges for hundreds of households in the area, organised anti-eviction squads, campaigned for decent housing, combined with other civil rights groups to challenge the infamous ‘dawn raids’ and heavy police tactics, published a free community newspaper, provided visitors’ bus services to Paremoremo & Waikeria prisons, ran a child care centre, and operated a community information bureau from their busy shopfront centre at 15 Ponsonby Rd (where Western Park is today).
Now these veteran community activists are planning to get back together to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
If you were involved in the Peoples Union, come along to the reunion from 7pm on Saturday 18 February at the Ponsonby Community Centre, Ponsonby Terrace. (No charge, but bring a plate & non-alc drink. Tea & coffee provided)
