Heleyni is an activist, musician, artist and union organizer working for UNITE Union.
While at university Heleyni became involved in student activism and socialist politics, going back even further than that Heleyni has had a life-long involvement in the campaign for justice for the Palestinian people.
Her work in UNITE involves working with and organizing the low-paid and casually employed at places like McDonalds and KFC. She is passionate about the issue of zerohours contracts and has chaired part of a recent international union conference on the issue.
Heleyni has been a long-term member of MANA because of its commitment to social justice and its serious attempt to build a bicultural organization for all New Zealanders led by Te Ao Maori.
