Harawira joins ‘Clean Up the House’ campaign in support of parliamentary cleaners
Posted on October 8, 2013 by admin in News“I’m in” said Hone Harawira, MANA leader and MP for Te Tai Tokerau, in response to the challenge from MP Denise Roche to support the call for a living wage for parliamentary cleaners by doing a night shift with them.
“MANA fully backs the campaign for a living wage for all New Zealand workers” said Harawira “The more workplaces that adopt the living wage, the more that low-wage workers will get a chance at a decent life for themselves and their kids”
“And I’m happy to pay for it by reducing MP and Ministerial salaries. It’s kind of embarrassing to watch how our salaries keep going up, while our cleaners’ wages can’t even keep pace with inflation. It just ain’t fair.
If turning out with a scrubbing brush and a vacuum cleaner can help get a decent wage for our cleaners then I’m happy to do it”
