Save Mighty River Power Flotilla

Posted on May 6, 2013 by admin in Hone Harawira, Press Releases

This Sunday 12th May, a flotilla of water craft is leaving Hamilton for Ngaruawahia as part of the continued opposition to government’s sale of Mighty River Power.

“We are opposed to the economic treason that this government is engaged in, we are opposed to government’s refusal to deal honourably with Maori over Maori rights and interests in fresh water, we are opposed to the sale of New Zealand owned assets, and we are opposed to the privatisation of electricity which will lead to increased power prices” said MANA leader and MP for Tai Tokerau Hone Harawira.

“We thought we’d take our case to the very river that government is trying to sell, in the same week that Mighty River Power shares are traded. It also happens to be the same week that government presents its budget to the nation”.

MANA Hauraki Waikato has issued an open invitation to anyone to join the flotilla on Sunday.

“I hear Labour and the Greens are coming, some union reps, kaumatua and kuia from different parts of the country, environmentalists and school kids and I’d love to see anyone else – waka ama paddlers, small boats, fishermen – come along for the day”.

“Let’s send a simple message – we want to keep our assets in our hands – and we want to show our support for that message by putting it out on the water”.
