Media Advisory: MANA and Green Party leaders to meet with Porirua housing advocates on Wednesday
Posted on September 11, 2012 by admin in Media AdvisoryA group of Maori community organisations in Porirua have called a meeting on Wednesday afternoon with MANA leader, Hone Harawira, and Green Party co-leader, Metiria Turei, to talk about the chronic housing needs of their community which governments past and present have failed to address.
The hui will include representatives from Te Korowai Aroha, Te Rōpū Āwhina, Maraeroa Marae Health Centre, local kōhanga reo and Te Kura Māori o Porirua, and local residents. The purpose of the hui is to hear what the housing needs are and to put a plan of action in place to turn things around.
“Too many state houses are in a bad state of disrepair due to years of budget cuts and a lack of government maintenance, and too many state houses are empty despite long waiting lists of Maori in urgent need of housing” said Piripi Gray, coordinator of tomorrow’s hui.
The hui will run from 1-3:30pm, Wednesday 12 September, and will be held at Pember House (ground floor), 16 Hagley Street, Porirua.
All media welcome.
