What we say in public is not what we mean

“If you want to have a private conversation then have it in a closed room” said MANA Leader and Tai Tokerau MP Hone Harawira when told that John Key had called in the cops to gag the media running the story of his ‘cup of tea’ with John Banks. “But if you want to show off in public, then don’t moan when the public hears about it”

Harawira said he laughed when he first heard the story about a reporter ‘innocently’ recording the conversation, but says Key and Banks’ actions in trying to keep it from going public suggested they had something to hide.

“Wake up and smell the roses boys” said Harawira “You chose to make it a public spectacle – you even told the media so they could be there.”

“The media’s job is to put the politicians in the spotlight (and the politicians like it too), the public has a right to know, you Johny’s have been caught out, and we’re all dying to know what you’re trying to hide!”
