MEDIA ADVISORY: Naenae College Breakfast Club comes to Parliament in support of Feed the Kids Bill
Posted on March 11, 2014 by admin in Media AdvisoryTomorrow, sixty senior students involved in running Naenae College’s Breakfast Club will come to Parliament in support of MANA’s Feed the Kids Bill.
“These students turn up each school morning to help serve their school mates breakfast and see first-hand what a difference it makes. They also see first-hand that the Breakfast Club doesn’t reach all the kids who need it, that more food is needed beyond weetbix and milk, and that it’s a stretch to run it day-in, day-out without a dedicated paid coordinator.
“MANA’s Feed the Kids Bill would make sure all kids in decile 1-2 schools have breakfast and lunch provided at school, and has been costed to include the employment of a Feed the Kids coordinator at each school to pull together student, staff, parent, and community volunteers.
Five of the students will accompany Mr Harawira across the bridge to question time and will be available for media comment: Head Girl, Emma Cropp, and Prefects, Michael Ladd, Ursula Walker, Jordana Zhu, and Noah Brookhammer-Lust. During question time Mr Harawira will ask the government what more they intend to do to ensure hungry students are fed at school.
Programme:
- 11:40am: Welcome address from Hone Harawira MP on Parliament steps
- 12noon: Lunch on Parliament lawn
- 12:35-1:35pm: Tour of Parliament
- 1:40-2:00pm: Student speakers available for media comment
- 2:00-3:15pm: Students to attend question time
