Mana announces “strong” party list

MANA has selected a party list of candidates who could be relied on to represent the interests of Maori and the poor in the next parliament.

Party leader Hone Harawira says the caliber and breadth of experience of those on the MANA list should give every voter confidence in giving MANA their party vote.

Mr. Harawira, as leader, is number 1 on the list followed by Annette Sykes at 2, John Minto at 3 and Sue Bradford at 4.

“These are people I have absolute faith in to uphold the values which MANA stands for. They have proven themselves over many years as people of high intelligence and great moral fortitude who will not be swayed by the trappings of power or compromise for expediency. They are the very kind of people we need in parliament and I am greatly honoured that they have been prepared to put themselves forward and stand beside me.”

“There is no other party presenting such a formidable team who can be guaranteed to stand up for people’s rights which are under attack as never before and to uphold the principles enshrined in the Treaty of Waitangi.”

MANA’s commitment to young people is reflected in the choice of rangatahi candidate 24 year old Misty Harrison at No 5 on the list while the ethnic diversity of the MANA team is reflected by the placement of Pacific Islander and South Auckland resident James Papali’i at 6.

An East Coast Maori with a life time of experience as a organic farmer producing manuka honey who has been at the forefront of the campaign to stop off-shore drilling for oil, and MANA’s candidate in the Ikaroa Rawhiti electorate, Tawhai McClutchie comes in an number 7.

While another with a lifetime commitment to the environment and standing strong on maori land issues Hauraki – Waikato candidate Angeline Greensill is at number 8 on the MANA party list.

No 9 slot is filled by Jayson Gardiner of Ngaiterangi, Ngati Whakaue descent who has led many community development initiatives in Tauranga (where he is standing for MANA) including Tu Pou Tahi, the working implementation of the National Youth Suicide Prevention strategy In Our Hands (Kia Piki Te Ora).

And Dr Richard Shortland Cooper: an artist, health worker and educator fills the number 10 slot.
