“We are the 99%” Part 2.
Posted on October 18, 2011 by admin in MANA Rangatahi, Ngaa Rauuira Pumanawawhiti, Press ReleasesMANA Rangatahi, Tuesday 18 October 2011
On Saturday 15th of October Mana Rangatahi stood in solidarity with the peoples of the nation and indeed the world, an act of global protest against economic inequalities and the pandering of world governments to the rich at the expense and dispossession of the poor, the working class and as we are beginning to see now, even the middle class. The issue for Mana Rangatahi is; if those who live middle class lifestyles are struggling in our society, what might that say about the poor and the working class?
While John Key and his mates are raging it in party central, Mana Rangatahi wonders whether the 270,000 children who live under the poverty line in this ‘developed’ country of ours, managed to sleep in a warm house with a full stomach. Accordingly, Mana Rangatahi’s support of the protest occupations in this country and the world remains ever more solid.
But when police begin to purposefully target and pursue protest leaders and individuals in an effort to slow and/or abolish the momentum of the peoples protest, Mana Rangatahi expresses great concern. Special concern is taken into account when those targeted and pursued, discriminated against because of their history of involvement in the struggles that face ordinary people living in this country daily.
Police discrimination does nothing to serve a society such as ours and when that discrimination particularly involves rangtahi, Mana Rangatahi will speak out it so the voices of our youth can be heard.
Mana Rangatahi supports and acknowledges the stand made by our rangatahi who demonstrated their views all over the country. Particularly Aotea Square on the 15th of October where authorities were challenged and failed. Mana Rangatahi speaks out against the discrimination of youth in our society.
When outspoken rangatahi are being pursued because of their histories in serving the issues that most need it, Mana Rangatahi will back you.
When our rangahi express their great dissatisfaction for the social, political and economic direction of this country, Mana Rangatahi will extend their voice to those who need to hear it the most – the people.
When 270,000 children in this country live below the poverty line, Mana Rangatahi will remind this country, nation and society of its obligation to care for our tamariki whose voice is being silenced continually.
Mana Rangatahi calls for support on the Occupy protests around the country and encourages any and all contributions made toward the occupation. Giving special regard to the men and women on the front line – Kia kaha rangatahi mā!
